Distribution Facility Manager

Nathan James is looking for a Distribution Facility Manager to join our team in providing distribution, receiving, inventory, and fulfillment leadership and direction.

You’ll be responsible for providing tremendous leadership, direction, and on-site support to receiving, inventory, fulfillment and shipping team members.  Great communication is a strong suit for you in providing updates and staying in touch with various division within Nathan James. As the on-site manager, an instrumental part of your job will be to help establish and uphold the Nathan James culture for employees that have proven to be long term teammates.  You will be the handling the fulfillment of both small parcel and LTL/FTL orders; as such, you will be responsible for making sure all shipments are on-time, accurate, and damage-free. You will also be responsible for receiving all inbound containers within 24 hours and keeping a clean facility with <0.001% damaged goods and >99.98% accurate inventory at all times.

During training, you’ll be expected to be proactive in your process and learn quickly. Hands-on training will involve playing an active role in the start-up of a new fulfillment center.  This will include acquiring supplies, setting up all work areas, establishing relationships with local employment agencies, training employees, creating work schedules, leading and participating in creating a safe work environment (signage, culture, layout, etc.). 

Once fully up-to-speed (2-3 months), you will have a complete understanding of how to operate and manage a Nathan James fulfillment center.  You will have a full team and will begin handling daily output of both inbound (~6 containers daily) as well as outbound (~2500 orders – a mixture of small parcel and LTL).  We will continue to grow both in SKU count (~65 SKUs annually) and volume (~60% year over year); therefore, this position will also require assistance with continual improvements to handle these increases.  Planned staffing is 14-17 total employees and occupying 100-130k SF in the Reno, Nevada area.  Equipment will include electric MHE, carton flow, conveyor systems and more.

We’re looking for a great operations leader who loves clean, smooth running, and safe supply chain operations.  You should enjoy the daily challenge of making sure containers are unloaded, inventory is accurate, fulfillment is efficient, and shipping is on-time.  This means being a great problem-solver with the ability to process and resolve issues quickly. This also means that you are someone who likes to lead by example – you have seen the impact it makes on others when you prove that you would never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t be willing to do yourself. 

You should be a stellar communicator, even when you have to communicate less-than-stellar news. You should have highly tuned senses of compassion, empathy and a drive to constantly help others by being approachable.  You love being organized and running a clean and safe operation and take great pride in running independently.  You want to be part of a growing company starting a new fulfillment facility and you’re excited to drive Nathan James’ customer happiness through the highest quality order fulfillment/delivery.

We would like to see at a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar e-commerce distribution, fulfillment, and/or supply chain role. You have managed a facility that handled both small parcel and LTL/FTL fulfillment (specifically, Amazon Vendor Warehouse orders, as well as, other retailer warehouse order fulfillment). You have worked with major retailer routing guides and know how to build processes that let you easily comply without disrupting normal activity. You may have a degree or you might not. That’s not what we’re looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it.

Deep technical knowledge of automation and machine maintenance/repair are not prerequisites; however, these are added skills that would set you apart and help you to succeed in this role.  You should be familiar with the latest material handling methods and have worked with warehouse automation in the past.  You should also be familiar with performing time studies and calculating total processing times so that you can manage, monitor, and prioritize orders well before carrier pick up.
