Nathan James is looking for a Director of Distribution to join our team to run and continually improve our Reno fulfillment center.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role requires you to be on-site full-time at our Reno DC. If you do not live in the Reno/Sparks area, we offer a $10,000 relocation support.

You’ll be responsible for directing and continually improving on Nathan James’ 130k distribution center in Reno, NV. This will involve overseeing each group within the DC (receiving/putaway, picking, sorting/labeling and shipping), collaborating to find areas for efficiency, being the onsite expert and go to for major issues/concerns, as well as reporting and monitoring all facility metrics and costs. A strong desire for project-based work is needed for this role, along with a desire to self-teach and continue to find opportunities to improve the operation, the lives of our team members, our metrics and the overall cost of the facility.  As Distribution Director, you will report to and work very closely with the VP Operations and the rest of the warehouse team to take ownership of the facility performance and to provide our customers with the highest level of service through on-time/accurate shipments, on-time receipts, inventory accuracy, and damage-free material handling.

 

During training, you will be quickly getting up to speed on our current operation and procedures.  This will include learning how to manage the facility while also getting deep training in our software, hardware, processes and goals for both current and future state.  You will meet the current team and start to take over management and direction of the day-to-day operation.  You will be working very closely with the VP, Operations and the Director of Logistics to absorb how Nathan James currently operates while also giving you everything you need to successfully improve our DC as well as the way your team interacts with other teams within Nathan James immediately.

Once fully up-to-speed (2 months), you will have a complete understanding of how our Nathan James distribution center operates and you will be provided with the tools to begin building and executing projects that will make visible improvements. You will be able to report on all metrics, understand and manage any software or hardware issues within the facility, know the level of expectation in terms of throughput, quality and space to stay ahead of projections, and be able to quickly prioritize and execute on all projects to stay ahead of projected volumes.

ABOUT YOU:

We’re looking for an organized, self-disciplined, creative leader who is always striving for continual improvement within their operation and comfortable with open communication.  You enjoy identifying issues, exploring potential areas of improvement, finding cost effective solutions, troubleshooting and continuing to fine tune until fully executed.  You should be the unique type of problem solver that is able to carry the baton across the finish line by working through every conceivable issue with the designed solutions, implement through rigorous testing and the inevitable rework/redesign. This also means that you are someone who likes to lead by example – you have seen the impact it makes on others when you prove that you would never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t be willing to do yourself. 

You love being organized and running a clean/safe operation.  You are fully capable of understanding what needs to be done and you take great pride in running independently.  You want to be part of a growing company starting a new fulfillment facility and you’re excited to drive Nathan James’ customer happiness through the highest quality order fulfillment/delivery.

You are familiar with the latest material handling methods and have worked with warehouse automation in the past. You should also be familiar with performing time studies and calculating total processing times so that you can manage, monitor, and prioritize orders well before carrier pick up.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience running an e-commerce distribution center, 
  • You have managed a facility that handled both small parcel and LTL/FTL fulfillment (specifically, Amazon Vendor Warehouse orders, as well as, other retailer warehouse order fulfillment).
  • You’ve grown and improved an operation to handle more throughput with less panic, more stability and with the same or fewer team members.  
  • Not required, but a big plus if the individual is advanced in their knowledge of WMS software, shipping software, warehouse robotics, mechanics and process design. Most of this will be learned on the job, but it would at the very least require a deep interest and ability to self-educate quickly while getting up to speed.
