How to choose the right stool height
Need help deciding on the perfect height stool for your space? Keep reading for information on how to choose!
How do I choose the right height stool for my counter or bar?
To choose the right height stool, measure the height of your counter or bar.
- For counter-height surfaces (around 36 inches tall), choose counter-height stools with seat heights between 24 to 27 inches.
- For bar-height surfaces (around 40 to 42 inches tall), choose bar-height stools with seat heights between 28 to 30 inches.
Ensure there is a comfortable space of 9 to 13 inches between the seat of the stool and the underside of the counter or bar.
Can I use bar-height stools at a kitchen counter?
Bar-height stools are typically too tall for standard kitchen counters, which are usually around 36 inches high. For kitchen counters, counter-height stools with seat heights between 24 to 27 inches are more appropriate, ensuring a comfortable seating position and sufficient legroom.
How many stools do I need?
Choosing the right number of bar stools for your space depends on a few key factors, including the length of your counter or bar, the size of the stools, and the comfort and spacing preferences for your seating area. Here are some guidelines to help you decide:
Measure Your Counter or Bar Length:
Measure the length of your counter or bar in inches.
Consider Stool Width:
Our bar stools are typically around 17 inches wide.
Leave about 6-10 inches of space between each stool for comfort.
Calculate the Number of Stools:
Use the following formula: (Counter Length in Inches) ÷ (Stool Width + Spacing) = Number of Stools
For example, if your counter is 72 inches long and your stools are 18 inches wide with 8 inches of spacing, you would calculate: 72 ÷ (18 + 8) ≈ 3 stools.
Account for Overhang:
If your counter or bar has an overhang, consider leaving some space for legroom.
Additional Tips:
For a balanced look, ensure that the spacing between stools is consistent.
If you prefer a roomier seating area, opt for fewer stools with more space between them.
